About the Event

In conjunction with the exhibition Farideh Sakhaeifar: You are in the war zone. curated by Klaudia Ofwona Draber, the artist will be in conversation with curator, educator, and content producer Regine Basha.

Farideh Sakhaeifar was born and raised in Teheran, Iran. She is a multidisciplinary artist, educator based in New York City. Sakhaeifar’s work investigates the politics of conflict, collective history, and personal accounts. She employs a range of media to critique US foreign policy and the Western narrative of the war in the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) region. Her creative practice includes sculpture, video, installation, collage, and collaboration with HEKLER since 2018, an artist-run collaborative platform fostering the critical examination of hospitality and conflict. She received her MFA from Cornell University (2011) and her BFA from Azad Art and Architecture University in Iran (2008). Sakhaeifar has awarded the Shed first Open Call (2019) and has been an artist in residence at Queens Museum Studio Program (2018), Residency Unlimited (2017), BRIC media fellowship (2017), BRIC Doc Intensive (2017), and Workspace Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) (2012-13). Sakhaeifar’s work has been shown nationally and internationally and has been widely covered, including ArtFuse, The Guardian, and Hyperallergic.

Regine Basha was born in Israel to Iraqi parents, and grew up in Montreal and Los Angeles. She studied studio art and art history at New York University and Concordia University and completed her MA from Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College. She has worked for over 20 years curating exhibitions and public programs nationally and internationally in a variety of public institutions, public spaces, galleries, and museums. In the past decade, she has developed specific expertise in the work of sound installation artists as well as art coming from the MENA region and its diaspora.  Bashaprojects sites the curatorial output of cultural producer Regine Basha.

Farideh Sakhaeifar: You are in the war zone. is a solo survey exhibition addressing the impact of war and the repercussions of displacement. Exhibition presented by KODA and Trotter&Sholer. Curated by Klaudia Ofwona Draber.

Trotter&Sholer is a boutique art firm brought to you by Jenna Ferrey, Angie Phrasavath, and Elisabeth Johs, specializing in emerging contemporary artists and creating art buying experiences for collectors.

KODA is a social practice nonprofit arts organization focusing on conceptual mid-career artists ingrained in social justice. KODA offers survey exhibitions as well as tailor-made and community-based artist residencies, through collaborations with socially engaged partners. The nonprofit serves the community with contemporary art events and outreach to strengthen arts education. In its overall mission to support the artistic and professional growth of artists, KODA acts as a laboratory for creative concepts, reflecting its core values of curiosity and collaboration.
