About the Exhibition

KODA is pleased to present The Sixth Day, a solo exhibition by Brooklyn-based photographer Nyamekye “Edmond” Bucknor. This installation is curated by Farideh Sakhaeifar (KODA ’21), The exhibition will be open to the public at KODA house (407B) on Governors Island in New York City from May 17-June 15, 2025. The opening will take place on Saturday, May 17 at 3-5 pm.

Since 2019, Edmond has been using photography to document everyday life on the streets of New York City—particularly in Brooklyn, New York.  Alongside his street photography, he has also turned his lens inward, capturing the intimate moments of daily life within his own family. Through these dual approaches, Edmond explores the nuances of public and private intimacy and the subtle differences between documenting strangers and loved ones.

His work reveals both the banality and the quiet beauty of ordinary life: people going about their day, moments of human connection, and glimpses of joy, tenderness, and introspection. Often, these scenes go unnoticed by their subjects, yet Edmond’s poetic and enigmatic eye reveals their depth and humanity. His approach is marked by humility and presence—eschewing staged setups, and at times using no-finder techniques in favor of genuine, unfiltered observation.

This solo exhibition is Edmond’s first major institutional exhibition, showing photographs from 2019 to 2025. Edmond is currently completing his MFA at Brooklyn College and holds a BA from The City College of New York. The Sixth Day, curated by Farideh Sakhaeifar (KODA '21), is part of When Artists Curate—KODA’s new curatorial series inspired by Alison Green’s book When Artists Curate: Contemporary Art and the Exhibition as Medium (2018).
