About the Event
Join us for an evening of short documentaries that focus on Women + Labor. Documentary film 'Mujeres Atrevidas' by Cynthia Tobar will be presented at Millennium Film Workshop.
The evening will center women and women-identified Latine voices as we reflect on their roles and impact on the labor movement in the US via grassroots documentary film/media. This event will also kick off a fundraiser for Mujeres Atrevidas crowdfunding campaign!
Program includes music by indie-soul singer Rebecca McCartney, a screening of the short work-in-progress of 'Mujeres Atrevidas,' followed by a panel discussion moderated by cinema studies scholar and educator Gina Marchetti with film director Cynthia Tobar, cinema & media studies scholar Diana Flores Ruíz, writer, scholar and editor Mónica-Ramón Ríos and the Workers Justice Project.
Mujeres Atrevidas chronicles the strength and persistence of Latine female app delivery workers, construction workers and domestic cleaners in Brooklyn as they confront harsh working conditions and fight for their rights through involvement with the Workers Justice Project. The ultimate goal is to intertwine participatory documentary and participatory design methods for these workers to embrace wonder in reimagining what gig worker technology platforms could and should look like to foster well-being and agency.
